See that woman in front with the blonde hair and the big smile.
She is definitely having a good audience experience. I can say that for sure because that is me! This was an audience experience at TEDxCentennialParkWomen where we each had a drum and we were led by Jo-Ann Radus of the Drum Cafe in an interactive drumming experience. She knew exactly how she wanted her audience to feel. IGNITED! And we were!
We often ask ourselves as speakers, "What do we want the audience to take away from our talk," but do we ever ask, "How do we want our audience to feel?" Knowing the answer to that question will help you shape your talk to truly fit your audience. If you want your audience to feel compassion then you might choose words, stories, pictures that evoke that feeling. If you want your audience to feel curious, then feed them information in a way that has them wanting to know what's next.
This TEDx event was especially fun because in between speakers they had audience experiences where we got to dance, drum, and move. These experiences gave us a chance to laugh, engage and feel like we were a part of what was happening on stage.
When writing and delivery your talk ask yourself along the way, "How do I want my audience to feel" and then DELIVER!
